Sport Climbing Certificate Courses

What is “Sport Climbing”?

“Sport climbing” is a form of rock climbing, which requires the fixing of “permanent” anchors on natural/artificial walls (see photo on the right), climbing ropes will run through these anchors to belay the climbers – in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, sport climbing would be one of the events.

In Hong Kong, all of the climbing walls available for renting in Government’s sport centres are “sport climbing” facilities. To rent these facilities, one needs to have “a recognised and valid sport climbing training level 2 certificate or above issued by the National Sports Associations“. At the moment, all level 2 courses being taught in Hong Kong need to follow the Level 1 to 3 Sport Climbing Guidelines, established by the China Hong Kong Mountaineering and Climbing Union; we are also basing our training courses on these guidelines. The purposes of the courses are to promote the sport of sport climbing, and improve our students’ climbing skills, as well as their safety awareness, through systematic training.

The Hong Kong Wilderness Training Centre is one of HKMU’s affiliated training centres. We provide the following courses in accordance with HKMU’s syllabus and regulations:
